Plums
Plums, gages, damsons and cherry plums (Mirabelles) are excellent when eaten fresh but can be used for cooking and preserving. They flower early and so need shelter from cold winds. Most varieties are self-fertile, but some require another variety from the same or next pollination group to be planted close by to act as a pollinator.
Ken Muir’s Minarette trees are ideal for the smaller garden as they can be planted as close as 60-90cm (2-3ft) apart.
Plum trees are available from late November until late March.
