The attractions of strawberries are many; the cost of planting stock is small, and they produce fruit even when given the minimum of attention and expense, though under these conditions the crop will vary in size considerably from year to year. Plants should be spaced 30-40cm (12-16in) apart with a 75-90cm (30-36in) gap between rows.
Early mid-summer fruiting varieties usually crop from mid-June to early July. Mid-summer varieties crop approximately one week later. Late mid-summer varieties usually crop throughout July. ‘Perpetual’ fruiting varieties crop from mid-August to mid-October and may also give a crop in the early summer.
